Happy Valentine's Day

Ok so once again, I am not on crack, but today is 7/7 of the Lunar Calendar, which means it's Valentine's Day in Taiwan. The story behind this day is actually a pretty sad one from what I remember. There was a boy who lived with his older brother because their parents passed away. Because he took care of the cows, everyone called him Cowherd. When he came of age, his older brother and sister-in-law didn't want to split the wealth with him so they gave him a buffalo and a cart and sent him away. Cowherd then cleared a plot of land for a small farm and a house. One day, the buffalo told him that he was a celestial being that had been banished to earth and that Cowherd should go to the lake and meet his future wife. Cowherd's future wife turnd out to be another celestial being, but she and her sisters violated Heaven's rules by coming down to earth to visit the lake. However, Weaving Girl didn't want to return to heaven so she stayed on earth with Cowherd for seven years. One year on earth is equal to one day in heaven, so by that time Weaving Girl's grandmother had realized that Weaving Girl was gone and came to bring her back. With the help of the buffalo Cowherd was able to follow for a while, until Weaving Girl's grandmother created a huge river and told him that he must cross it if he wanted to see Weaving Girl again. At this time a flock of magpies appeared and created a bridge for Cowherd to walk across. Thus, Weaving Girl's grandmother allowed them to meet every year on the 7th day of the 7th month. Sad, huh?
Anyhow, went to lunch w/ Christina today. Good times, good times. We talked about everything from Harry Potter to college life to boys to roommate drama. We even discussed how if the 7th Harry Potter book has an open inconclusive ending, we'd shoot someone. Ok, maybe not, but we agreed that it'd better end at 7 books and not spin off into more. Times like these make me really happy to be home. =D
Job interview tomorrow with Santa Clara County Registrar of Voters, hope it goes well. =P
